Space Professionals Partnership win UKSA Space Resources Regulatory Horizon Scan Study

6th November 2024

Space Professionals Partnership (SPPL) with consultants Mini Chakravarthini Rai (OrbitRise) and Matthew Wills (Sustain-Space) have been selected by the UK Space Agency to deliver a small Space Resources Regulatory Horizon Scan study. This study will undertake analysis of Space Resource Utilisation (SRU) capabilities considering the lunar environment (including Lunar surface), the wider cislunar environment and Asteroids.

The study will take a holistic and scalable approach reviewing current and planned Lunar and Asteroid missions and identify potential gaps in regulatory and technical capabilities. The expert team will engage with stakeholders and gather evidence on the evolving space resources economy and investment landscape.  The work will include a report which will map out possible avenues for capability development relating to Space Resources to assist identification of regulatory challenges and opportunities. The team will also conduct a cost benefit analysis as part of the output to the study.

SPPL are utilising the depth and breadth of its expertise through our associate network, with Mini and Matt both providing direct relevant experience to contribute to the horizon scanning work. The results of the Study is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
