Space Professionals Partnership, together with partners University of Surrey (Surrey Space Centre) have been awarded a study by the UK Space Agency Office, which aims to define guidelines to mitigate debris risks in the lunar environment.
The UK Space Agency is keen to support efforts to develop recommendations for the sustainable use of Cislunar space. This study seeks to identify key research gaps and further develop the work carried out in previous studies to feed directly into the IADC Working Group and other international forums (UN COPUOS and Artemis Accords). The outputs of this study may also be used by the UK Space Agency and wider UK Government to inform new regulatory policy for future UK-licensed lunar missions.
Following on from the Post-Mission Disposal Options in the Cislunar environment study SPPL completed earlier in 2025, SPPL are utilising its depth and breadth of experience through its partnership network of associate consultant professionals. The team includes Matthew Stuttard, Adit Shah, and Toby Harris as well Nicola Baresi, an expert in Orbital Mechanics from the Surrey Space Centre.
The study concludes in March 2026 with a final report to the UK Space Agency Office of the Chief Engineer.
