Simon Watts

Simon joined the Space Professionals Partnership network in May 2024. He has worked in telecoms since graduating in 1981, most of his experience gained within the Satellite Communications sector. He has extensive experience of satcom, and network design having overseen deployment of major satellite and hybrid networks for BT and Hughes.

Between 2012 and 2024 Simon worked at Avanti on ESA, UK, and EC funded projects. During this time, he brought wide industry experience to deliver technical and commercial direction across SatCom related activities. These covered the integration of satellite and terrestrial networks, 5G (and 6G) NTN concepts and standards, modem/antenna design, cellular and Wi-Fi backhaul; plus network design for African incubator service projects.

Since August 2024 Simon has been working with the CAA as their C2 Link lead for RPAS.

Simon has also supported Space Professionals Partnership and its partners, the Royal Institute of Navigation, and GVL Ltd, in the development and delivery of satellite communications training within the context of the satellite applications training hub, funded through UKSA.  The Satcom course runs from Friday 11th October, every Friday until 13th December.
